Although appliqué art is now found in most parts of India, the Pipili appliqué stands out for it sheer brilliance and is considered the best and most authentic by connoisseurs of art. It is here that the age old art originated and Pipili is globally famous today as the centre for Indian appliqué. Located Just 20 km or little more from Bhubaneswar, the place has stalls lined up either side of the road selling applique of various shapes and sizes. One can find many art and craft shops in Old Town area and along the Lewis Road-Ravi Talkies, Samantarapur-Dhauli Road and Ekamra Haat, selling appliqué work of Pipili.

One can either choose to purchase the traditional items like the hanging lampshades, banners, purses and umbrellas or go for contemporary items like bed sheets, bags, cushion covers, wall hangings and even apparels made of appliqué style.
