The Janpath (literally meaning Common Man’s Road) is a major North South thoroughfare of Bhubaneswar. Starting from Vani Vihar Square, it stretches up to Bapuji Nagar. This stretch of the city has some of the best retail outlets, great food and entertainment options. The stretch is dotted with an entire list of glitzy malls, branded showrooms, with amenities including multiplex, kids’ zone, food court, cafes, restaurants etc. One can shop at the Central, Pantaloons or Forum Mart housing retail outlets of well-known national brands or walk into the numerous high end showrooms dotting the streets on both sides.
Some of them include international brands like United Colours of Benetton, Nike, Adidas, Lee, US Polo, The Body Shop and national chains like Biba, Fab India, Louis Philip, Arrow, Westside, Fastrack, Baggit and Mochi to name a few. The stretch also has various state handicrafts and handloom emporiums such as the Rajasthan emporium and Khadi Bhandar, offering handlooms at government-controlled prices. A good number of jewellery showrooms including Tanishq, Epari Sadashiv, Lalchand, Khimji, and Cuttack Jewellers also mark the Janpath.
Janpath is a veritable shopper’s paradise and is the place where you can buy everything from a watch battery to high end jewellery and everything in between. One can try out the Bhubaneswar-based showrooms like Kalamandir, Alishaan, Panda Lifestyle etc that have become hugely popular among the locals over time. Sports lovers can try out the popular Sports Emporium. Most of these shops have their second outlets at the stretch between Jaydev Vihar and Patia, home to major IT companies and educational institutions.
