Crafts of Odisha are a household name in every nook and corner of the country. The age-old practice of sculpting, weaving and painting has generated scores of handicrafts and handlooms that explicitly reflect the diverse culture of the State.
An initiative by BMC, BDA, Odisha Tourism and Handlooms Textiles & Handicrafts Department, the Museum Walk curated by Detour Odisha at Kalabhoomi aims at letting people explore through the galleries of preserved artefacts in a guided manner. Under the popular head of city trails called “Ekamra Walks”, the Museum Walk creates awareness among people about the rich cultural heritage and history of Odisha. These experiences also focus in sensitizing the local population about the huge treasure-house of culture that the State is, and the dire need to appreciate and preserve it. It also seeks to be one of the mediums to initiate community based efforts towards the conservation of art, crafts and heritage.
The Museum celebrates the craftsmanship of artisans by encasing and putting on display a string of their breath-taking masterpieces. Spanning across 12.68 acres, Kalabhoomi has been designed to be the ultimate destination for Odisha Handicrafts and Handlooms. Featuring 10 galleries, 8 of which are open at present, the campus also has an impressive set of other amenities.
